The city of Cleveland, Ohio is located sixty miles west of Pennsylvania on the southern shore of Lake Erie. This city grew due to its location on Lake Erie, its’ proximity to the Ohio and Erie Canal and railway system which lent itself easily to the manufacturing business. As the manufacturing industry declines Cleveland has expanded its economy to the service industry. The second largest performing arts center in the nation is located in Cleveland. The Playhouse Square Center includes several theatres, is home to Opera Cleveland and the Great Lakes Theater Festival and also showcases an assortment of Broadway productions. Two Cleveland natives, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, created the original comic book character Superman in 1932. Also, this city has been the setting of successful television shows such as The Drew Carey Show and Hot in Cleveland

Cleveland has been widely recognized for its local cuisine. The roots of the city’s cuisine are defined by its large amount of immigrants from central and Eastern Europe. Michael Symon is a local chef who was named, “the Next Iron Chef,” in 2007. Michael Rulman, a prominent food writer, helped to create an episode of Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations focused on Cleveland’s restaurant scene. All of the media attention led several awards being presented to local restaurants, including an article in the Chicago Tribune naming Cleveland, America’s “Hot New Dining City.”

There are teams from three of the major sports leagues in Cleveland. MLB’s Cleveland Indians play at Progressive Field in Downtown Cleveland. The NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers play in Quicken Loans Arena in Downtown. Also, the NFL’s Cleveland Browns play at Cleveland Browns Stadium adjacent to Lake Erie.
